About the museum
The museum was founded by Paul Heyd, an engineer and long-standing co-managing director of the chassis supplier Alfred Heyd. Alongside his career he collected cars and motorcycles; many of the cars came from the family's own possession, as the family often kept older vehicles. In 1980 he opened his collection in Öhringen to the public.
The museum mainly shows high-quality sports and touring cars from German, British, French, Italian, American and Swedish manufacturers from 1945 to 1965, including rare models by Aston Martin, BMW, Borgward, Delahaye and Talbot-Lago. There are also around 100 motorcycles from the post-war decades, enamel signs, cameras and large-format portraits of significant figures in automotive history.
The same building houses a collection of European glass art from the second half of the 20th century. Since the founder's death in 2016, the Heyd family has continued to run the museum.
