About the museum
The Brettacher Mühle in Langenbrettach is a listed cultural monument with a striking Renaissance-style gable. On its first floor, the Heimatgeschichtlicher Verein Langenbrettach e. V. (local history association) and the municipality set up a village museum. For this, an eight-person mill team cleared, repaired and sorted for four and a half years and put in just under 5,000 hours of work. The museum opened on September 14, 2014; in summery weather, well over a thousand visitors came.
The museum is devoted to the theme “Working, Living and Dwelling” from the beginning to the middle of the 20th century. On display are the restored remains of the mill machinery, a miller's workshop, and re-created craft trades and living situations from that time. The mill also sits in a small park with a historic wooden pavilion, which serves as a rest stop for cyclists and hikers on the Brettachtal cycle path.
