About the museum
Three windmills stand close together on the Woldegk Mill Hill. The museum mill is considered the last Dutch-style windmill in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania whose sails are still covered with canvas and turn in the wind. A mill museum has existed in Woldegk since 1969; the current museum mill was reconstructed in 1993 and has since housed the exhibition on the development of milling technology.
Inside, the processing of grain over 5,000 years is shown, including millstones and sacks to try out. Windmill models at a scale of 1:50 tell 900 years of windmill development. From the grain-loading floor (Beschüttboden), each of the four windows looks out on a different one of the other Woldegk windmills; in suitable wind, the view reaches from the Windrosenbock to the Helpter Berg, the highest elevation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The town of Woldegk is the operator, represented by the Amt Woldegk (administrative office). A mill warden leads visitors through the house; for kindergartens, school classes and tour groups there are dedicated programs, including bread baking in a stone oven.
