About the museum
The Strasburg local history museum is housed in a building that was erected as a school in 1760. Since 1975, it has displayed evidence of the town's history and of the Huguenots. Strasburg in the Uckermark was shaped by French religious refugees, and the museum traces their legacy.
The town's history is at the heart of the permanent exhibition. Committed residents of Strasburg assembled it and contributed many details to the museum. Special features include a straw art clock and two richly decorated tiled stoves from Strasburg potteries of the Gründerzeit period.
One section is devoted to the boxer Max Schmeling, who came from the area: the house shows his original study along with small everyday details. The historic schoolroom brings the teaching of earlier generations to life with old textbooks and objects to touch. Although the house is small, it is well worth a visit: its rooms offer a vivid cross-section of everyday life, school and town life in past decades. The museum also changes its exhibition program several times a year, with a focus on regional and national artists.
