About the museum
The Dorfstube (village parlor) has been collecting relics from Münchholzhausen since 1947. It was founded by Albert Malinowski; Helmut Brückmann later ran it for many years. Since September 2005 the club "Montag früh" (Monday Morning) has looked after the museum.
The exhibition is spread over two floors in spacious rooms above the district office (Stadtteilbüro). The oldest pieces are urn fragments and bone finds from the Hallstatt period (800 to 500 BCE) from the village and its surroundings. Thematic collection groups document village history from the 19th to the middle of the 20th century, with items such as ox teams, centrifuges, painted wooden bread boxes, spinning wheels, early flatirons and hand planes. An old kitchen, a living room and a shoemaker's workshop show rural life; in addition there is an East German homeland collection on flight and expulsion.
