About the museum
The museum in the Ostbevern district of Brock is housed in the former village school. It is probably a unique institution in Germany, showing in detail and with humor the arduous washday of earlier generations, which was marked by hard physical labor.
The collection comprises more than 2,000 exhibits. The oldest pieces date from the 17th century, but most come from the time of the grandparents. The range extends from a small bar of soap to a cold mangle that weighs a ton, and gives a vivid picture of how household routines and laundry technology developed.
Guided tours of the exhibition “Wäschewaschen gestern und heute” (Washing Clothes Yesterday and Today) are offered for groups, optionally combined with a walk through the half-timbered village of Brock and coffee and cake.
