About the museum
The Museum der Stadt Eschborn was founded in 1989. At that time a modern building of glass and steel was attached to the neighboring half-timbered house, the former inn “Zur Krone”; today the town archive and the museum administration are housed there. The boundary stones in the museum garden were set up at the opening in 1989.
The museum has four floors. The basement and the first floor are reserved for temporary exhibitions. On the second floor, archaeological finds and medieval objects show the early local history, with a focus on the Eschborn tower castle and the Battle of Eschborn of 1389, in which the knights of Cronberg defeated the Free Imperial City of Frankfurt. The third floor is dedicated to the painter Hanny Franke (1890–1973), who moved to Eschborn in 1963; his estate is kept in the museum.
Since 2024 the museum has been undergoing a new conception and will be gradually rebuilt over the coming years, so one section may temporarily be closed. A hall in the building serves for concerts and lectures and as a civil wedding room.
