About the museum
The Museum für bäuerliche Arbeitsgeräte des Bezirks Oberfranken opened in 1975. The core of the collection was assembled by agricultural teacher Günter Schmidt (1922–2002), who had been collecting old farm tools and rural household equipment since the late 1950s.
The museum is housed in a historic barn of the Lettenhof on the western edge of Bayreuth. Its focus is a vintage tractor section as well as equipment for field cultivation, grain harvesting, flax processing, laundry care, and food preparation. The former residential and stable building of the farm now houses the KulturServiceStelle of the Bezirk Oberfranken.
Besides the exhibition, the Lettenhof offers museum education programs through its Lernwerkstatt (learning workshop) for children, families, and senior citizens. Rooms and the farm's guest room can be rented for celebrations.
