About the museum
The Tuchmacherhaus was built in 1805 by Martin Holzhauser. His daughter married the cloth maker Georg Eberhardt in 1841, and the property stayed in the family until 1984. The last generation, which had no children, left it to the town of Thannhausen.
In 1987 the town decided to give the listed half-timbered house, together with its agricultural annex, to the Heimatverein Thannhausen (local heritage association) for a local history museum. After extensive conversion and renovation work, the association set up a town museum there with the objects it had collected over the years.
The exhibition commemorates the town's history and two personalities of the place: the physician and writer Wilhelm Bauberger and the children's writer and cathedral canon Christoph von Schmid.
