About the museum
Max Bresele (1944–1998) was an Upper Palatinate sculptor, filmmaker and assemblage artist. He trained as an offset printer, and his art was radical, Dadaist, and critical of war and consumerism. He stood for the defiant aesthetics of the 1970s and 1980s and took part in protests against the Wackersdorf reprocessing plant, among others. For about 15 years he lived and worked in an abandoned barn on the edge of an eco-commune.
After his death, his artistic estate faced a choice between destruction and a museum. The Weiden Art Association took over the estate as its administrator and set up the Museum Max Bresele in 2017. More than a thousand objects, including assemblages, paintings, furniture, films and books, are preserved; part of the collection is stored in Etzenrich.
Paintings, object boxes and sculptures are on view in two rooms set aside for this purpose at the art association in Weiden. Further works are shown at Kunstpartner in Adlmannstein. Access is via the association's venue, Café Neues Linda.
