About the museum
Machine builder Johannes Schlender started with a plate scale in a majolica housing and over the years gathered scales, weights, dry measures and measuring instruments. When the collection outgrew the residence, he built an annex on the neighboring plot; in May 2000 the museum opened to the public.
In 2017 Schlender donated the collection to the market municipality of Bechhofen. In 2024 the museum moved into a municipal building on Feuchtwanger Straße, the former brush factory (Pinselfabrik), after it had been open at its old location in Königshofen for the last time on June 9.
Over 300 square meters display scales, weights in seven subgroups, grain and length measures, measuring and angle instruments, surveying instruments, hydrometers and thermometers, objects related to calibration, and vessels for liquids. The Royal Bavarian weights and measures system is of particular importance and gives the museum a special position in southern Germany.
