About the museum
The Wimpelinhof lies in the northwest corner of the old town, directly beside the Obere Torturm (Upper Gate Tower). The residential house with its magnificent Renaissance half-timbered façade was built in 1599; the builder is unknown. The barn belonging to the property was built in 1630 by Sebastian Wimpelin and his wife Katharina; their inscription gave the whole courtyard its name.
In 1991 the city of Markgröningen acquired the ensemble and restored it in accordance with monument preservation requirements; the restoration was completed in 2005. Since then the house has been accessible as a museum.
The small permanent exhibition is devoted to the early modern period; the building itself, with its paneled parlors, bay windows, plank room and richly decorated chambers, is the most important exhibit. One of the painted chambers tells the story of the Schäferlauf.
