About the museum

The Schlagzeugmuseum was founded in 2011 by curator Marcel Vogelmann and is located on the upper floor of a building in the Pflugfelden district of Ludwigsburg. It is run by a non-profit association, the Schlagzeugmuseum Ludwigsburg e.V.

On more than 250 square meters, the permanent exhibition shows the roughly hundred-year history of the drum kit, arranged by decade. On display are drum sets, many individual pieces and memorabilia of well-known rock drummers. About 80 percent of the exhibits are loans from drummers or their heirs; the rest belongs to association members.

The museum sees itself as a hands-on museum and organizes workshops and activities centered on drumming. It is well known for the drum days (Trommeltage) initiated by the curator. The museum is currently in a renovation break, but can still be visited by arrangement.
