About the museum
The Wöhler-Dusche farm lies on a spur of the Isernhagen ridge. The area was only systematically settled in the 13th century, and the farm has remained in family ownership since its founding. Its name combines the builder, Wöhler, with Wilhelm Dusche, the last farmer to own it.
The main house was built in 1592, according to dendrochronological dating; some beams come from even older buildings. It is a two-post Kübbung house with a rammed clay floor in the Diele (central hall), a Flett (the traditional center of the house) and a representative economy gable. Until 1883 it was a smoke house without a chimney; after that a brick hearth was built in. The farm also includes a cottage garden and a bake house about 300 years old, which volunteers have restored over many thousands of working hours.
The sponsoring association was founded in 1989 from a working group of the Volkshochschule Isernhagen (adult education center) and runs the farm on a volunteer basis. The permanent exhibition shows furniture, linens, household goods and tools from rural everyday life around 1900, including the parlor, the bedroom, the Waschlucht (washing area) and spinning wheels.
