About the museum
The doll museum is located in the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) of Bad Breisig on Koblenzer Straße, directly by the Kurpark. The building was constructed in 1873/74 and formerly housed the town administration; an inscription above the entrance still recalls this use. The collection was built up over decades by Waldy and Karl-Heinz Rängel.
In 2014 Oscar Ferreira and Julia Osadcha took over the house and collection and celebrated the reopening together with the then mayor. The couple who run the museum live on the upper floor, and the museum is operated by Breisiger Puppenmuseum GmbH. During the pandemic the house was thoroughly renovated and the collection further expanded.
On display are antique dolls made of porcelain, wood, wax, celluloid and composition materials, mostly of German and French origin, with a focus on porcelain shoulder-head dolls from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There are also teddy bears and dollhouse rooms at 1:12 scale, such as a fashion salon, a "Gute Stube" (best room) and a summer retreat. The rooms are furnished to convey the atmosphere of around 1900.
