About the museum
The museum goes back to the private collection of Gisela Becker, who began gathering old dolls and toys at a young age. At first she showed her pieces only now and then to guests of the Hotel Eifelperle; later the decision was made to make the collection publicly accessible. The museum opened in April 1992, in honor of the hotel's 25th anniversary.
On display are hundreds of dolls made of wax, wood, bisque porcelain and celluloid from around 1840 to the 1960s, plus dollhouses and doll kitchens, toy shops (Kaufläden), Steiff animals, teddy bears and tin toys, as well as toy castles, toy trains and steam engines. The objects stand on old tables and chests and in historic cupboards, inviting visitors to discover new details on a second visit.
In the spacious garden stands a group of five small half-timbered houses, arranged like a little village. Each is devoted to a theme, including everyday life in the 1950s, a kitchen around 1900, an Eifel bedroom, and rural life with farming and old craft tools.
