About the museum

The Heimatverein Weseke, founded in 1961, bought a half-timbered farmhouse from 1748 in 1977 that was due to make way for a new building. Members dismantled it and, by 1978, rebuilt it through volunteer work on a municipal plot on Hans-Sachs-Straße. Since then the Heimathaus has served as the association's clubhouse and displays household items and tools from flax processing and dairy farming.

The Quellengrundpark gradually took shape on the adjacent grounds of the disused Borken–Burgsteinfurt railway line. Additions included a granary from around 1750 from Ahaus-Wüllen, which was moved in 1995 and rebuilt by 1998 as a baking granary with a wood-fired oven, a mouse barn ("Museschoppe"), an umbrella barn with a wooden shoemaker's workshop, a field-fired charcoal kiln and a bloomery furnace, and in 2008 an exhibition barn with old farm machinery and engines.

Natural history installations complete the park: a geological garden that presents the history of the Earth as a 24-hour clock, a spiral-shaped pharmacist's garden on the history of medicinal plants with a touch-and-scent area, a Kneipp wading pool with spring water, and the listed Wellenhäuschen over the Holtbach spring, which supplied parts of the village with drinking water from 1901.
