About the museum

From 2016, collectors Antje Helbig and Joachim Legner had parts of the August Helbig family brewery on Ahäuser Weg converted into an art museum; Berlin gallerist Michael Schultz was a co-initiator. The brewery dates back to a brewing license from 1822 and was the last survivor of what were once several breweries in Weilburg. The Rosenhang Museum opened on June 5, 2017, incorporating restored elements of the old production rooms into the conversion.

On four floors and in outbuildings, the museum displays works from the Legner/Helbig Collection across more than 2,000 square meters, mainly painting from Germany – including works by Elvira Bach, Stephan Balkenhol, Georg Baselitz, Markus Lüpertz, A. R. Penck, Gerhard Richter, Cornelia Schleime and SEO. A permanently installed art cage, the "Banksy Art Lab", examines the work and marketing of the street artist.

In addition, numerous special exhibitions, often with short runs, present young and regional artists alongside well-known names, accompanied by concerts, readings and workshops. The program is supported by the Nassauischer Museumsverein zu Weilburg, founded in January 2017. In 2021 the museum awarded its richly endowed art prize "Löwe von Weilburg" (Lion of Weilburg) for the first time.
