About the museum

The museum's foundation was laid in 1982: Robert Niedermeier senior found a rare Zündapp KS 750 motorcycle combination from 1944 on the Adriatic island of Korčula, brought it to Rottau and restored it. From this a collection grew, which its founder has expanded for more than three decades and which his son now helps to maintain.

The exhibition covers about 700 square meters, including a historic vaulted room and the outdoor grounds. It shows, on the one hand, how strongly World War II technology shaped later vehicle technology, and on the other, how in the postwar shortage objects of war were reused in everyday life. The title "Vom Schwert zur Pflugschar" (swords into plowshares) sums up this idea.

Three areas structure the building: vehicles, including numerous wheeled and tracked vehicles, many of them in running condition; military technology from soldiers' equipment to weapons technology; and contemporary history with uniforms, documents and everyday objects. One focus is Pocking Air Base (Fliegerhorst Pocking). Visits are with a personal guided tour led by the operator.
