About the museum
The treasury belongs to the twin church on the Hohen Peißenberg: in 1514 a Marian chapel was built here, which soon became a place of grace and triggered a lively pilgrimage. At the start of the 17th century the larger pilgrimage church was added, completed in 1619. Since 1604 Augustinian canons from the Rottenbuch monastery had cared for the pilgrimage site.
The treasury is located in the former oratory of the canons above the sacristy. Since 1990 the room has been set up as a small museum. It displays sacred art, gold and silver work, and further evidence from the history of the pilgrimage and the parish.
The Hohe Peißenberg is one of the Holy Mountains of the Bavarian sacred landscape; alongside the churches, the summit holds the oldest weather station in the world and a traditional inn. The treasury can only be visited after prior telephone registration.
