About the museum

The Museum Schlosspark is housed in the manor house of the former Bangert estate. The estate is first mentioned in 1326; in the Renaissance there was a moated castle here, and after the destruction of the Thirty Years' War a new building was erected in 1668. In 1768 Princess Amalie of Anhalt-Dessau acquired the estate and had a representative Neoclassical residence built on the old foundations, which still looks largely the same today. In the 19th century extensions with crenellated turrets were added, which were removed in 1970 due to structural decay. In 1881 the industrialist Carl Puricelli acquired the estate for his son Heinrich and had it expanded in the Historicist style; the preserved rooms include a hunting room by Anton Pössenbacher, court joiner in Munich.

Today the museum presents the city and art history of Bad Kreuznach. One focus is the history of the estate up to the grand "Schlösschen" around 1900; another is the period when the town attracted an exclusive public as a spa resort. The centerpiece of the art collection is sculptures by the Cauer family of sculptors, who worked over four generations and roughly 150 years, from small sculptures to monuments and architectural decoration. Drawings, watercolors and paintings show the town and landscape of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Together with the Römerhalle and the Museum für PuppentheaterKultur, the house forms the KulturViertel (cultural quarter) of the town.
