About the museum
The museum is housed in the old school of Heddesheim, a district that now belongs to Guldental. The municipality shows how people in the winemaking village of Guldental used to live and work. Living and sleeping rooms from around 1900 convey everyday domestic life, along with equipment from agriculture and crafts and old musical instruments.
One focus is viticulture. On display is a 19th-century wine press, along with filtering machines from 1900 onward, cork and labeling machines, and a rotary bottle sterilizer. One station is devoted to phylloxera (Reblaus), which has caused major damage in Germany since the 1870s and which winegrowers struggled with for a long time.
The Guldental village archive, which the village archivist looks after, is housed in the same building. The museum is run by the local municipality and is accessible only by arrangement.
