About the museum

The St. Johann Nepomuk association of Plattling was founded in April 1864 by citizens of Plattling. Fishermen, millers, raftsmen and water workers on the Isar venerated the bridge saint and asked him for protection from floods and storms. In gratitude, the association vowed a regular water procession on the Isar, which still takes place every three years today.

In summer 2004 the association opened its museum on Passauer Straße, which regards itself as the first Nepomuk museum in the world. It consists of two buildings with more than 300 exhibits in total. In 2024 it celebrated its 20th anniversary.

One building brings together sculptures, paintings, writings, historical sources and prayer texts about John of Nepomuk. The second building is devoted to the history of the Isar town of Plattling and of the association itself.
