About the museum
The Stadtmuseum Deggendorf has been housed since 1983 in the listed former boys' school, a building from 1901 by the Munich architect Johann Baptist Schott. It presents the cultural, economic and social development of the town and its region; extensive special collections illustrate this through representative examples.
On the second floor, the newly furnished permanent exhibition "Wir sind Deggendorf! Die Stadt – der Fluss – die Menschen" has been on show since September 12, 2021. It presents the town's history, supplemented by sections on the "Deggendorfer Gnad" and on aspects of health care. It offers numerous accessible features, including 22 tactile stations.
On the top floor, cultural-history exhibitions and children's exhibitions alternate; on the ground floor, the Stadtgalerie shows mainly contemporary art across more than 350 square meters. An education workroom provides space for workshop activities; the house belongs to the Kulturviertel (cultural quarter) of the town and to the Museen der Stadt Deggendorf.
