About the museum
The museum is run by the Heimatverein "1912" (local history association) for Ortrand and the surrounding area, which has concerned itself with the history of the town and region for more than a hundred years. It sees itself as a center for local history and art, and it was inaugurated in 2015.
In content, the house links the town history of Ortrand with the landscape and culture of the Schraden region. The associated Joachim-Schmidt-Galerie honors the painter Joachim Schmidt, who was born in Ortrand; it opened on the occasion of his 90th birthday at the museum's inauguration.
Alongside the permanent exhibition, the association shows changing art exhibitions by regional artists in its rooms and hosts lectures and the annual Tag der Stadtgeschichte (Day of Town History). Visits are regularly possible on Monday evenings, otherwise by arrangement.
