About the museum
The city museum uses historic rooms in the Staufen town hall and tells selected chapters of the town's history, beginning with prehistoric finds. Among the objects is a mammoth bone, estimated to be 15,000 to 35,000 years old. Other themes include early mining, Staufen Castle and the town's crafts.
A particular focus is on the scholar Johannes Faust, who is associated with the town, and on Staufen's cultural life. The rooms themselves are part of the exhibition: traces of the Struve Putsch of 1848 can still be seen in the town hall today. A multimedia station shows, among other things, a video reconstruction of medieval Staufen.
