Special exhibition
The special exhibition shows archaeological finds that were discovered during the construction of the campus of the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg in Neumarkt.
The Stadtmuseum Neumarkt presents the history of the town in the Upper Palatinate across roughly 1,000 square meters of exhibition space. The tour begins with the medieval founding of the town and leads through its heyday as a residence of the Palatine Wittelsbachs in the 15th and 16th centuries, to its time as a garrison for the Bavarian Chevaulegers and as a spa town, up to the destruction of the old town in World War II.
Furniture, clothing, household goods, tools and expressions of popular piety make the difference between bourgeois and rural life tangible. A special focus is the Velocipede factory Goldschmidt & Pirzer, from which the Express Works later emerged: documents, photos and rare collectibles, including 19th-century high-wheelers and early bicycles, tell the story of Neumarkt's bicycle industry.
Anyone further interested in the Express Works will find an exhibition room for the Museum for Historic Maybach Vehicles in the former factory building, mostly showing products from the 1950s. The city museum is operated by the city of Neumarkt and offers a museum education program.
