About the museum
The Städtische Kunstgalerie uses five rooms in the Deutschordenshaus, which was built between 1774 and 1778. It shows works with a direct connection to Donauwörth: they were created in the town, come from artists born there, or have the town as their subject.
The rooms are arranged thematically into religious depictions, portraits of personalities from the town's history, and views of Donauwörth from before its destruction in the war in April 1945. In the foyer there are also sculptures by Donauwörth artists. In the Festsaal (banquet hall) with neoclassical stucco decoration, the ceiling painting by Johann Baptist Enderle stands out; created in 1780, it shows the wedding of the sea nymph Thetis and Peleus.
