About the museum
The museum shows the stone collection of the local pastor Julius Hügel (1917–2006). He collected stones in whose grain and form faces could be seen, often with a religious connection, and he occasionally lent the image a hand to convey his view of a stone. From 2000 on, he presented the finds in his parents' house.
Since 2007, the collection has been housed in the listed, restored Heilig-Haus in the village center of Oberwittstadt, which the town of Ravenstein makes available. The exhibition is on the upper floor of the residential house from 1787, which has late Baroque fittings; the other rooms of the house can also be visited. The museum is run by the association "Museum der sprechenden Steine e. V." (Museum of Speaking Stones).
