About the museum
Museum founder Annegret Dreßel first showed around 500 teddy bears from her collection in an exhibition at the Möbelmuseum (furniture museum) in Steinheim. In 2017 she opened the Teddy- und Puppenmuseum in the rooms of the former inn “Alt Steinheim” on Höxterstraße.
The building is a half-timbered house from 1759 in the center of town. Because of the low ceilings, the former inn was known as “Café Bück Dich” (roughly “Bend Down”); after several changes of operator it became a museum, and the name lives on in the museum café.
On display are teddy bears by makers such as Steiff, Hermann and Martin, bears by regional artists and rare advertising bears, as well as dolls from around 1900 to the present. In the teddy and doll clinic, plush toys are cleaned and repaired. The café works with donated cake baked by volunteers, and over the course of the year there are changing exhibitions, a museum night, an Apple Week and a Christmas market.
