Traditionsbahn Radebeul
Museum railway association with a historic heritage train on the Lößnitzgrundbahn Radebeul–Moritzburg–Radeburg and a museum train in Radebeul Ost.
About the museum
The foundation was eight old two-axle narrow-gauge cars that the Reichsbahndirektion Dresden handed over to the Dresden Transport Museum in 1965; since 1967 they have stood as a museum train at Radebeul Ost station. Railway enthusiasts maintained the vehicles and from 1973 prepared special trips with four-axle cars whose interiors of the former car classes were still largely preserved.
In August 1974 the first heritage train ran between Radebeul Ost and Radeburg. Shortly afterward, those involved founded a working group within the German Model Railway Association, from which today's association emerged – by its own account the oldest museum railway association in Saxony. The members provided the train crew in historic uniforms and organized large vehicle shows at Radebeul Ost station.
Since 1994 the association has owned its own vehicles, and in 2000 the heritage locomotive, monument locomotives and cars of the heritage train became its property. Since 1997 it has been licensed as a railway operator and runs its special trains itself. Locomotives and cars from the years 1892 to 1927 were gradually returned to the condition of the Royal Saxon State Railways around 1900; volunteers take on all tasks from ticket sales to stoking the locomotive.
