About the museum

The Turmuhrenmuseum Naunhof goes back to a support association founded in the early 1990s, which set out to track down, restore and make publicly accessible relics of the old tower clock trade. With support from the city administration, the museum moved into the historic half-timbered building of the former Naunhof girls' school from 1837 and opened on July 1, 1995. It considers itself the first tower clock museum in Saxony.

In several rooms, the development of timekeeping is shown, from mechanical tower clock movements through master and secondary clocks to a tower clock and bell-ringing system. The oldest piece is a tower clock with quarter and hour striking from Colditz Castle, dating from 1606; the newer exhibits include an electronic radio master clock from around 1980. Most of the pieces still work. There is also a station clock with a Nasenuhr, living-room and longcase clocks in the museum café, and a small clockmaker's workshop.

For the Day of Open Monuments in September 2006, the association inaugurated the flower clock in the church garden behind the museum together with the Protestant parish; it was the first in the former Muldentalkreis district. Regularly changing special exhibitions complement the permanent exhibition.
