About the museum

The wine-growing exhibition is located on the Jessener Obst- und Weinweg, on the grounds of the Hanke wine estate, which calls itself the northernmost quality wine estate in Germany. It was set up by the Jessen regional association "Eigenständige Regionalentwicklung im Jessener Land" (independent regional development in the Jessen region).

Thanks to its favorable climate, the Jessen region is among Germany's northernmost wine-growing regions and is also an important fruit-growing area. Wine-growing here goes back to the 13th century. It is recorded that Martin Luther already appreciated the local wine during his stays in Jessen and Schweinitz.

On display are wine-growing tools such as vineyard hoes and wine presses, along with historical documents, photographs and maps, wine barrels, wine carboys, cork-making machines, glasses, bottles and labels. A series of photographs explains each step of the work in the vineyard.
