Exhibition by Darina Doyle: a playful reimagining of divine beings from Greek mythology, celebrating nature and the connection between woman and earth.
The foundations of the collection were laid after the Second World War by Horrweiler resident Otto W. Schmitt, who gathered everyday household objects. In the 1960s, part of it was housed in a village community hall that later had to be demolished.
In 1990, the municipality acquired a former press house with grant funding and converted it into a museum; the opening took place in September 1992. The annex also houses rooms of the volunteer fire brigade. The municipality owns the building, and the museum is run on a volunteer basis by the Verein Weindorf-Museum Horrweiler e.V. (association).
The permanent exhibition shows village life since the 19th century, with house and farmyard, school, crafts and fieldwork. Farming, winegrowing and cellar technology can be seen on the ground floor and in the vaulted cellar, including the development of winegrowing since Roman times. On the upper floor there is, among other things, a kitchen, the “Gudd Stubb” (good parlor), and an original classroom of the village school.
Admission is free.
According to the museum portal, the museum is not barrier-free.
Children especially enjoy the original classroom of the village school; no special family programs are published.
