About the museum
Wilhelm Busch visited his nephew, the local pastor of Hattorf am Harz, several times, and in 1887 wrote that he had found the parsonage and its surroundings as cozy as nowhere else. In letters he described the family's life, the landscape and even the weather; in Hattorf he produced a sketchbook and some of his paintings. The church tower, the oldest building in the village, which is more than a thousand years old, appears frequently in his drawings.
Today the Wilhelm-Busch-Verein Hattorf runs a memorial in a small half-timbered house next to the Protestant church of St. Pankratius. In a few square meters it conveys the life and work of the poet and draftsman, with particular attention to his Hattorf years, and displays works including views of the village. A memorial stone also commemorates Busch.
