About the museum
The Archaeological Collection of Anafi was set up after the major fire of 1997, which destroyed large areas of the island. The responsible Ephorate of Antiquities then began a multi-year project to record and gather the scattered antiquities. The collection is housed in a small room of about 20 square metres in Chora and shows how long the island has been inhabited.
The exhibits come mainly from the ancient acropolis of Kastelli, the harbour of the ancient town. Three Roman marble statues wearing himatia and a full-length female statue stand out; they have lost their heads. The collection also includes a fragment of a sarcophagus with draped figures, several ancient inscriptions and a bronze coin of Anafi with a beehive.
