About the museum
The museum of the Koutsogiannopoulos family in Vothonas, Santorini, is housed in a natural labyrinth of caves, eight metres below ground and 300 metres long. The family needed twenty-one years to complete it. The winemakers of the fourth generation created it to share the tradition of winemaking.
The rooms present the history of Santorinian winemaking from 1660 to 1970. Visitors see the stages of production, from ploughing and harvesting to treading and weighing the grapes, as well as rare machinery and tools used by earlier generations. The automatic audio guide is available in 14 languages and the printed guide in 22. The visit ends with a wine tasting at the winery.
