About the museum
Tylissos has kept its ancient name unchanged for 40 centuries, and it reached its greatest flourishing as a Minoan settlement in the period 1650–1200 BC.
The three luxurious mansions that were excavated revealed close ties between the town and Knossos. The rich finds, among them three huge bronze cauldrons, unique in the prehistoric Aegean, show that the settlement was an important centre of metalworking.
