About the museum
The Malevizi Archaeological Collection is housed in the Town Hall of the Municipality of Malevizi in Gazi, near Heraklion. Most of the exhibits come from the collection of the businessman Nikolaos Metaxas, which he assembled between 1959 and 1997. About thirty further objects come from recent excavations in the wider area of the municipality.
In some forty display cases around 500 objects are exhibited, covering all periods of Cretan antiquity, from around 4000 BC to the 2nd century AD, and representing almost all forms of ancient art.
