About the museum
The Ekklisiastiko Mouseio Rethymnou was founded in 1994 and is housed in the building of the Parish Office, opposite the town’s cathedral in the area of Plateia Mitropoleos. It presents the church and cultural heritage of Rethymno from the early 19th century to the present.
The collection numbers around 152 exhibits, including carved wooden iconostases, ornaments, sacred vestments, icons, manuscripts, sacred vessels and bells. An old bell-tower clock, which operated until 1986, stands out, along with relief slabs and lithographs from the 19th century.
