About the museum
The Ekklisiastiko Mouseio Dimitsanas was founded in 1992 on the initiative of Metropolitan Theofilos of Gortynia and Megalopolis and belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Gortynia and Megalopolis. It is housed in the restored family home of Patriarch Gregory V, near the central square of the village. The restoration of the house was funded by the benefactor Panagiotis Angelopoulos (1909–2001).
Old books, vestments and icons are on display, including three icons of the Cretan School of the 17th century from the church of the Taxiarches in Dimitsana. The collection also includes liturgical vessels, carved wooden crosses, censers and an antimension bearing the signature of Gregory V. In the basement there is a small chapel dedicated to the Patriarch.
