About the museum
The Mainalo Forest History Museum is located in Chrysovitsi in Arcadia and is housed in the old state timber-processing factory, which began operating in 1939 and closed in the mid-1970s. The factory’s steam engine drove the machinery and supplied the village with electricity; the village was electrified in 1940.
The former Municipality of Falanthos, now part of the Municipality of Tripoli, created the museum with facilities transferred by the Ministry of Rural Development and with funding from a LEADER programme. The thematic sections present timber-felling materials, the tools and work of the forestry service and historic forest tools. They also explain the cycles of air, nitrogen and water in the forest, management studies and the conversion of energy by the steam engine.
