About the museum
Lefkochori (formerly Rekouni) is a mountain village of Gortynia on the slopes of Mainalo, and has a folklore museum, which is looked after by the Association of Lefkochorites Everywhere “Agios Dimitrios”. The association was founded in 1947, is based in Athens and has published the newspaper “Lefkochori” since 1977.
The museum shares a building with the local medical practice. In summer 2024 a new wing was created on the ground floor of the Lefkochorites’ House, on the initiative of Theodora Papatheodorou and a group of fellow villagers. Visitors can request a guided tour.
