About the museum
The building on Anacreontos Street in Zografou was built between the wars and was the workplace of the sculptor and painter Yannis Pappas (1913–2005), professor and rector of the Higher School of Fine Arts. The upper floor was the family home until the 1960s.
In 2002 Pappas donated the works of the studio to the Benaki Museum, and his son, Alekos Pappas, made the property available so that the works could remain in their original setting. Statues, plaster casts, drawings and paintings are on display, among them busts and expressive female figures.
Since 2021 the space has also operated as a drawing and painting workshop for young artists, with preparatory courses for the Schools of Fine Arts. Students of the School create works inspired by works of Pappas and present them on the second floor.
