About the museum

The first planetarium in Greece was founded in 1966 by the Eugenides Foundation, with the aim of spreading the achievements of science and technology in an impressive and entertaining way. The Foundation is based on the will of the national benefactor Evgenios Evgenidis, who wished to improve scientific and technical education in the country.

In 2003 the old planetarium was replaced by the New Digital Planetarium, which opened to the public for the first time in November of that year. It is an amphitheatre of 945 m² with 278 seats, surrounded by a hemispherical dome 24.5 m in diameter. The digital projection system covers the entire surface of the dome and presents shows on astronomy and other exact sciences.

The same building houses the Science and Technology Centre, with the Science and Technology Exhibition, experiment demonstrations and workshops in the UTech Lab. Collections of physics experiments dating from 1966 are also presented. The activities are aimed at schools, families and adults.
