About the museum
The idea of a permanent exhibition on the history of children’s toys and books in Myrina was born in 1978, when the archaeologist Christos Boulotis visited the Nuremberg Toy Museum and began collecting toys. Over the years his collection grew to many thousands of toys and rare editions of children’s literature, and it also includes objects that recall the world of school years. The collection was donated to the Municipality of Limnos, which undertook to house it.
The exhibition operates in two buildings of the Municipality of Limnos in Gialos, in the seaside zone of the Bay of Myrina, with a view of the Venetian Castle. The main building was constructed in 1906 and originally served as a school and latterly as a kindergarten. The museum has been open to visitors since 2021, and its website offers an additional interactive application inspired by the collection.
