About the museum
Myrina, at the site of “Rachi Nera”, developed into a proto-urban centre mainly in the Early and Middle Bronze Age. At its height, between 2500 and 2000 BC, it is believed to have had 3,000 to 4,000 inhabitants, and it developed in parallel with the settlement of Poliochni.
The settlement had a basic town plan, with streets between the houses and drainage systems with stone-built channels. The houses were spacious and elongated, with two or more rooms. The residential remains, the fortifications and the rich movable finds show dense and systematic occupation; the settlement must have been destroyed several times by earthquakes.
