About the museum
The Mouseio Kosti Palama is housed in the stone ancestral mansion of the Palamas family, opposite the house of the Trikoupis family in Mesolongi. In the house Panagiotis Palamas, teacher of the Nation, was born in 1722, and the national poet Kostis Palamas lived there for many years.
The two-storey stone building with attic and tiled roof retains its original ironwork, window arches and wooden frames. It was declared a listed monument by decision of the Ministry of Culture in 1959. In the 1960s it was in danger of collapse, and the state restored it and converted it from a residence into a museum.
The exhibits include printed and photographic material, personal objects and household utensils from the life and work of Panagiotis and Kostis Palamas. The Municipality of Iera Poli Mesologiou has announced the complete modernisation of the museum.
