About the museum
The Mouseio Oinou kai Ampelou tis Ipirou was inaugurated on 7 September 2017 and was created within the framework of the cross-border project Wine Net of the Greece–Italy 2007–2013 programme. It is in a municipal building at the entrance of Konitsa, opposite the 3rd Primary School.
The exhibitions present the introduction of the vine into Greece, the role of wine in antiquity and its relationship with Dionysus, as well as the tools of the vine grower: old and newer sprayers, grape-harvest baskets, saddles and traditional wine presses. In the harvest room, barrels, demijohns and a traditional tsipouro distillation pot are displayed, while in the projection rooms digital material is presented with recipes, songs, poems and proverbs.
The museum focuses on the vineyards of Epirus, mainly Zitsa and Metsovo, and on local varieties such as Debina, Vlachiko, Bekari and Mavroudi Konitsas. In the basement there is a tasting cellar, where producers from Epirus can present their products.
