About the museum

The Military Museum of Fort “Emin Aga” is housed in Khan Emin Aga, a 19th-century building that served as the headquarters of the Greek Army during the liberation of Epirus in the First Balkan War. In 1913 the Crown Prince Constantine had his seat there.

The building was rebuilt in 1950, with its architectural elements preserved, and the museum was founded at that time. Its purpose is to present the operations of the Greek Army that led to the liberation of Ioannina and Epirus.

The exhibits include Gras and Mannlicher rifles with bayonets, officers’ swords, Greek and Turkish decorations, photographs of the war, uniforms and military relics. A separate room re-creates the office of Commander-in-Chief Constantine and the conference room of the headquarters. Important works are the watercolours by Kenan Mesaré with war scenes. There are also biographical notes on the fighters of Bizani and a model of the battle with an audiovisual system.
